Voice acting is fantastic - it's as simple as that. It is elevated further and given greater urgency and impact by featuring the most menacing villains we've been pitted against yet in the series. Ultimately, it keeps the main plot simple and creates branches from it that add depth, and it all ties together to make a memorable experience. There's complexity here but not too much to confuse the attentive or become convoluted. Characters each have their own backstories and plot that unveils as the game progresses. Politics, prejudice, fear, history and the more fantastical fantasy: it's all covered here. Every The Witcher title has a layered plot but with this instalment it's more multi-faceted than ever. Many times did I laugh out loud, get teary or even angry at the events that unfold. I've rarely gone through such an array of emotions playing a video game. The quality of narrative, voice acting and writing typical of The Witcher series or - to those unfamiliar with The Witcher - BioWare games, is present here in spades. Somehow, this game manages to combine two facets in gaming that are often opposite ends of a spectrum: quality and quantity.
